Reds & Blues

A Time-Honored Tradition

The Tie That Binds

On the first night of camp, each new camper is assigned to either the Reds or the Blues. In a nod to our founder Mary Bell’s Scottish heritage, new campers receive a tie made from either red or blue tartan. The tartan varies from year to year, but the camper keeps her tie for life. Many Glen Arden mothers pass on their ties to their daughters. Ties are worn with navy blue to dinner in the dining hall and with white on Sundays.

Our ties are very important to Glen Arden girls and serve as a reminder of our best selves. During camp, they are hung on cubbies in the cabins when not being worn.

While at camp, the Reds and the Blues compete in various competitions such as Red Blue Basketball, the Swim Meet, Giant Relay, Peanut Drop and several others.
